Master Copy by Ryan

  1. Nice work Ryan,

For the future, one of the best things about doing master copies is experimenting and 'copying' brush strokes and patterns. There's no point in copying a line drawing when it's already there. Next time just use the original piece, desaturate and put a 'find edge' filter on it. That way you can focus on value, color, and most importantly brush strokes. It looks like the majority of this piece is using a hard round brush. Take a look at the armor... there's so much opportunity to get in there with the scratches, cracks, and wear and tear.

Another thing, try to focus on the big picture of things. I can see you get in there, get caught up in a detail here and there, then spend too much time on the face or whatever. Tyler West once said, when you work, you should always be at a stage where you're ready to show it to someone. Meaning, the most basic things should already be established in the painting early on. This means, block in the colors, the values, the lights and darks before you get into any details and textures. Keep these things in mind on your next work.

Keep it up dude. Lookin good.
